How to Price Your Artwork
by Ric Kasini Kadour

How to Price Your Artwork was originally presented during a panel discussion on April 28, 2005 titled “Pricing Artwork to Sell” hosted by South End Arts and Business Association in Burlington, Vermont.

The twenty-page, saddle-stitched, 4.25” x 7” chapbook contains the 375 word essay. Here are some pieces of wisdom:

“The first cave painters debated heavily whether or not representations of fertile hunting grounds were worth three animal skins and a basket of berries or half an elk carcass and four sticks. The outcome of this debate remains a mystery.”

“Multiply the number of hours by either the minimum or livable wage for your geographic area depending on your personal political sentiments. Add this to running total.”

“Multiply total times 2 if you have a BFA; times 4 if you have an MFA; and times 10 if you have noFA at all.”

“If the work is three dimensional, or is two dimensional, but feels three dimensional, multiply times the number of dimensions you feel the work is expressed.”

“Add 15% if you ever went to the Museum of Modern Art and thought, I wish I was born fifty years earlier.”
